FAQ

Starting point

It was January 2021 when I first envisioned Magu Cerâmica from my teenage bedroom. I am not sure what drew me to ceramics specifically, although I have come to conclude there was a collective need for hands-on activities during the global pandemic. Despite the global chaos, I benefited a great deal from having so much time to rest and test things out. I ordered a small amount of clay along with beginner tools online and spent a year quietly playing. In January 2022, I officially launched my brand, sitting on the same bed where I had vision boarded it. My method consists of endless experimentation, combined with consolidated processes — of ideating, making and communicating. I am interested in crafting as a ritualised way of living. This project has been 5 years in the making, and counting. Since moving from Lisboa to Barcelona, I am no longer living in my teenage bedroom. As of August 2026, it’s unclear what the near future holds for Magu, as I couldn’t restart production in my 25m² studio. The hobby-turned-career was forced into a hobby again. But my interest in objects as part of everyday rituals is livelier than ever. So I will keep documenting life online as I navigate it, and the rest will come.

Custom-made orders

(When I am not on production hiatus) my work is drop-based. I develop concrete concepts, themes or universes — both visually and in writing —, which guide each small-batch drop. To add to the exclusivity, almost every Magu piece is a one-off edition. Every once in a while, though, I make space for custom-made orders. If you feel the calling to have a ceramic object tailored for you, reach out. Write to me with what you have in mind, and we will pick it up from there. The idea is that we meet a middle ground between what I have to offer as an artist, and what you have envisioned in your unique vessel. I reserve the right to accept or decline an order, as I have limited resources, as well as language and style preferences. If my work resonates with you, I will be honoured to accept your order. Once I do, I will set production in motion. You can expect updates on deadlines, production stages and (sometimes inevitable) accidents. Please be patient, as it could take me up to a month to finish your new favorite piece. I promise it is worth the wait.

Payment methods

For Clay Plays and pieces from the Shop, you can pay with credit or debit card directly through the website. For Kiln firings and custom-made orders, you can pay with bank transfer or MBWay. I will provide you with the necessary data by email. Paying in cash is possible if you pick hand delivery at the end of an online purchase (currently unavailable).

Shipping

I ship orders to European Union countries. Mail and hand delivery are available. For mail delivery, I take up to 7 days to dispatch your package. You will be notified when I do. Shipping costs are automatically added at checkout or manually calculated by me, depending on your payment method of choice. You must be based or staying in Barcelona to qualify for hand delivery. Choose this option at checkout, then await an email response from me. If you choose this option but don’t qualify for it, I will email you to arrange mail delivery instead, with additional shipping costs at your expense.

Care instructions

For the most part, Magu pieces are fully glazed with food-safe glazes. This is imperative for a brand that produces mostly tableware. They are suitable for dishwasher and microwave use, but I don’t recommend it. Handwashing helps your ceramics last a lifetime. In the rare occasion that a piece isn’t proper for eating or drinking, that information is explicitly stated in the product description.

Kiln rentals

When I first ventured into ceramics, I used to rely completely on strange people and places to handle my pieces. I ran firings in big studios and in private houses, too, never quite settling for a trustworthy contact. If that is you now, I might be able to help. When I bought my kiln, I knew I wanted to give back to the ceramics community and rent it from time to time. I own a Kittec CB 70 Double at my family home in Mafra, Portugal. It is big enough to fit your creations and mine, one firing at a time. All services are explained in the Kiln page.
